GOOGLE: ARCTIC JOURNEY

ONBOARDING FOR
VIRTUAL REALITY

This project was about creating a Google Cardboard onboarding experience for everyone that steps into VR for the first time, letting them get a sense of what you can experience in the medium.

The approach was informed by our previous work with Cardboard Design Lab, with the big difference that we were now targeting all new users of the Cardboard platform, which called for a smooth progression-based onboarding.

We ended up creating a small Arctic world where you could explore different moments representative of the many interactions that can take place in VR such as flying, playing, learning and relaxing.

The lighthouse acted as the center of the world, from where the user could navigate to each chapter.

We wanted to use characters to interact and guide the users instead of using UI and buttons.

The concept was to go on a journey in an Arctic world.

We researched and brought to life a set of animals that made the world come alive.

In some parts of the experience we showcased how VR can be used for both learning and creating.

The experience ends with a relaxing vista where the user can play music by gazing at Northern Lights.
